Social Entrepreneurship Academy

Education for societal change.

Driving social innovations via entrepreneurial thinking and action – this is the aim of the Social Entrepreneurship Academy, which was launched by the four Munich universities (Hochschule München, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Technische Universität München, Universität der Bundeswehr München) and the affiliated entrepreneurship centres in 2010.

The primary objective of this specific project is to establish and build on a community focusing on social innovations with a view to anchoring this issue in civil society on a sustained basis. Under the motto of "Education for societal change", the project qualifies social entrepreneurs and those who wish to attain this status. Among other courses, the Academy currently offers students the "social innovations" certification programme and promotes projects to establish social enterprises via coaching. It also drives the establishment of a broad-based network to anchor social entrepreneurship in society with a view to bringing entrepreneurial action into line with social thinking.

The Academy's core activities are providing support for start-ups, qualification and networking alongside research and infrastructure.

Since 2012, the Vodafone Germany Foundation and the Social Entrepreneurship Academy have also been linked by the Act for Impact development programme for (budding) social entrepreneurs in the fields of education and integration. With EUR 51,000, the award is the largest development prize in the field of social entrepreneurship in Germany. Invitations to enter the fourth round will be issued in early 2015.
